Maryborough's Portside district runs from the Brolga Theatre along the Mary River to the Marina and extends out to parts of Kent, Bazaar and March Streets in the CBD.
The history of Portside is extensive, dating back to 1847 when the port was opened for the transport of wool, right up to the closure of Walkers shipyard in 1974.
As the only port during the colonial times, the Wharf Street district held all the glitz and glamour to be found.
In 1999, the luxury liner, Norwegian Star, made a visit to the port and with the renown of Fraser Island and Hervey Bay whale watching, the future of the Portside area may well have its place as a regular stopover feature of luxury cruises.
Our belief is that the potential for refurbishment and rebirth is limited only to our imaginations. And we, of the Maryborough Portside / Wharf Street business district, know no imaginative bounds!!
One of the highlights of the Maryborough Portside businesses is a five hour Ship to Shore Tour held on the 3rd Saturday of every month.
Ship to Shore includes an air-conditioned Colonial bus tour of the town of Maryborough, a Sunset river cruise on the Mary River and a horse and wagon ride from the Maryborough Museum to the Post Office Hotel.
You will enjoy wine and cheese tasting at the Criterion Hotel, an elegant 2 course meal at the beautiful Port Residence and dessert at the historic Post Office Hotel.
You will experience an unforgettable evening that is second to none when it comes to combining history, entertainment, fine cuisine and enjoyment.
Residents arrive in historic colonial dress to enhance the value of the tour for visitors to our area.
Embark on an evening to remember with an exciting interactive tour of Maryborough's Wharf Street and Portside.
3rd Saturday of each month.

September - February at 4:30pm
