Maryborough Technology Challenge
12 September - 13 September 2009
The Maryborough Technology Challenge is held in the city centre with the backdrop of famous heritage buildings of Maryborough. The city streets come alive with a celebration of youth, activities and entertainment that includes:
- Queensland 24 Hour Human Powered Vehicle Championships
- Smilie Pushcart races (Primary School entries)
- The Queensland CO2 Dragster Championships
- The Ergon Energy Queensland Solar Model Car and Boat Championships
- The Station Square Robotics Challenge
- The Hyne Timber Cycle City Challenge
- The best of local youth bands, fireworks and entertainment.
The mission of the Event is to provide an environment in which learning can be taken beyond the classroom by challenging students to apply practical design skills, construction principles and imagination while interacting with other members of their team and the community.
The aim of the Event is to encourage students, schools, community and industry to:
- Engage students in investigation of alternative energy options
- Engage students in exploration and design of alternative energy sources to propel vehicles
- Encourage the development of partnerships between industry and education to solve technological challenges
- Encourage healthy lifestyles based on good nutrition and exercise
- Encourage community and volunteer participation in school based extra curricular activities
- Provide an opportunity for the community to celebrate youth achievement.
