MAROOCHYDORE TOURISM

98 kilometres north of Brisbane, Maroochydore, population 17 500 is the central business centre for the Sunshine Coast. Maroochydore is graced by 25 kilometres of golden sands and an inviting ocean that embraces such famous surf beaches such as Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headland, Coolum and Maroochydore Beach. The area surrounding Maroochydore has 3722 hectares of municipal reserves and 2000 hectares of national parkland.
 
Maroochydore offers a blend of surf beaches and the calm waters of the Maroochy River whose southern bank forms a virtually unbroken stretch of parkland and picnic spots. The river mouth, which leisure craft now ply, was once the site of a large timber mill from where the local lumber was shipped to Brisbane by paddle-steamer. There are now river cruises, and great fishing opportunities along Maroochy River.
